Wii Sports

History of Wii Sports

The fourth highest selling video game of all time is Wii Sports. Wii sports is the highest selling video game that is only available one platform. Wii Sports came out in 2006 to be paired with the release of the Wii console. For all regions except for Japan it was included as a tie in game with the purchase of the console. It quickly became a smash hit and sold about 82 million copies worldwide becoming the best ever selling video game by Nintendo at the time. The popularity of the game lead Nintendo creating multiple sequels including Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports club, Nintendo Switch Sports.

Wii sports included 5 different sports, tennis, baseball, bowling, golf and boxing. All of the games used the motion sensing technology that the Wii was known for. For tennis game, the player used the Wii remote as a racket to swing. In the baseball game, the player could either be the batter or the pitcher. On the batting side the player swung the remote in a batting motion to hit the in game ball. On the pitching side, the player can choose different pitches and pitch them with the remote. For bowling you choose what position you would like to throw your ball and use the remote to roll it. In golf, you must manage the wind condition and choose the proper golf clubs while you use the remote as your golf club. Lastly in boxing, you must the Nunchuk remote add on which allow to have two in game boxing hands to fight your opponent and attempt to dodge their attacks

Wii Sports produced by Katasuya Eguchi who was the manager of a software development group at Nintendo. The goal of the Wii console was to reach families and those who had not played video games before and Wii sports needed to be one of the games to help do that. Wii sports was made to be a game that everyone would like especially people who do not often play video games. The theme of sports was chosen because they are something that almost everyone is familiar with. The developers thinking worked because Wii Sports was well received by critics and gamers and was thought to be a very good addition to get when buying the console

Wii sports was the most fun motion interactive game I have ever played. The game’s motion controls were very fluid and easy to use. The movements you had to make were simple enough so the motion detector was able to read all of your movements but the actions still felt like you were doing them in real life.
